I’ve always believed collecting brick building sets should be about what you love putting on the shelf, not what someone else tells you belongs there.

I collect because certain builds connect me to something I love. A movie I grew up with. A place I remember. A story I love. Sometimes it’s simply a great design that I know is going to look incredible on display. For me, the best part of collecting isn’t owning the most expensive box or chasing something just because it’s rare. It’s looking at a shelf and knowing exactly why I placed the set in my collection.

And yes, I collect plenty of name-brand sets, including the "L" brand.  Some are incredible, and there are certain originals I wouldn’t replace with anything. But I’ve also watched great sets retire and suddenly command two, three, sometimes four times their original price. At some point, I started asking a simple question:

How much am I paying for the set I want, and how much am I paying for the name on the box?

That question led me down the rabbit hole of alternative bricks.

What I found surprised me. There’s tons of garbage sets out there, plenty of them. But there are also remarkably good sets with excellent bricks, impressive designs that are satisfying to build and carry a serious display presence. In some cases, I’ve been able to put a set on my shelf that I otherwise would have passed on completely because I simply couldn’t justify the collector premium.

That’s ultimately why The Brick Addict exists. We’re not here to tell collectors that one kind of brick is better than another. We spend our own time and money researching, sourcing, building, and vetting sets to separate the good from the AliExpress garbage. The sets that make the cut are the ones we offer to our customers.  This way, collectors can spend their money on builds we believe are actually worth owning.

Sometimes the original is worth paying for. Sometimes an alt set makes far more sense.

I collect both.

Because at the end of the day, my shelf doesn’t care what logo was on the box.

And neither do I.
